How we recruit

At Tungsten West we seek to attract and retain a skilled, engaged and diverse workforce to join our dynamic and fast paced team of likeminded people now and in the future. We work with all of our people to support them in fulfilling their potential.

All of our live vacancies can be found on the Tungsten West careers page. We also actively recruit through social media platforms such as LinkedIn and Facebook, and we partner with multiple difference agencies and community initiatives to attract top local talent and those from further afield.

How to apply/what makes a good CV?

You’ve spotted a vacancy that is the right fit for you – time to apply! Simply complete the online form and submit your CV. You will also have the opportunity to submit a cover letter if you wish to do so.

We shortlist candidates by matching your CV to the essential and desirable criteria listed in the job advert, so make sure your CV highlights any relevant experience, qualifications, and skills you have. If you are applying to a new career field, make your CV stand out by talking about your transferable skills!

For specialist or hard-to-fill roles, we do consider sponsoring employees and will on occasion offer relocation and accommodation.

Congratulations - your CV has impressed us! The first step in your recruitment experience at Tungsten West will usually be an invite to a phone call with a member of our HR team, where we can discuss the role and your current situation in more detail. This is an informal chat and will usually take around 15 minutes, however, make sure you do some research on Tungsten West beforehand, consider the job description and why you have applied – this is our first opportunity to get to know you and first impressions count!

Our recruitment process is usually a 2 stage process, however our roles are so different that no two processes are the same! A member of the HR team will be able to give you more details of this in your phone call.

We ensure we have a transparent and honest recruitment process, and we will always keep you in the loop on any changes that happen throughout. If you would like feedback on any of your interview stages, please let the team know! Although we would love to provide feedback to everyone, due to the number of applicants we receive we cannot offer this at CV stage.

A culture of inclusion

Tungsten West employs a diverse workforce – we have staff from all over the world working at the Hemerdon Mine.

Our policy is to employ individuals with the skills, qualifications and experience best suited to the job – that is the most important factor for us.

We are very proud of our diverse workforce but know there is always more that can be done to ensure we are truly representative of the population. We welcome feedback and encourage our employees to talk to us openly about anything we can improve on.

We actively encourage applications from a wide range of people to develop a workforce that promotes ethnic, cultural and gender diversity. Our canteen serves a range of food to accommodate many needs and beliefs including vegetarian and vegan options.

Because we understand the potential impact of the mine on those people living in surrounding communities, where possible, we look to recruit local people so that we share the benefit of the mine’s existence with those most likely to feel its presence.

As of September 2022, 29% of Tungsten West employees are from the two postcode areas closest to the mine, with a further 53% from other PL postcodes and the remaining 18% coming from further afield.
