Life at Tungsten West

Location

The Hemerdon Mine is located in Devon, just on the outskirts of Plymouth, in the beautiful South West of England.

The mine is close to a number of amenities in Plympton, and is only 10 minutes away from the centre of Plymouth.

Plymouth is best known for the spectacular Hoe promenade, which features Smeaton’s Tower lighthouse and the Tinside Lido, an original 1930s grade II listed outdoor seawater pool. The location has played host to some amazing events over the years including MTV Crashes, Powerboat racing and SailGP, and the British Firework Championship competition, which returns each year and makes for a thrilling event held over two nights.

Plymouth is also a city of historic significance and features attractions such as the Mayflower Steps, where the Pilgrims are believed to have set sail for America on the ship the Mayflower in the 1600s. These can be found in an area of the city called the Barbican – a charming harbour with cobbled streets and an array of shops, restaurants and bars.

The city is also home to The Box – the new museum and art gallery opened in 2020, the National Marine Aquarium, the largest aquarium in the UK, the Theatre Royal Plymouth, which boasts some amazing productions year on year and the wonderful and historic Royal William Yard – a collection of beautiful shops, restaurants, bars and residential homes right on the water.

But the best thing about Plymouth, is that no matter where you are, you are only minutes away from the sea! It’s a city surrounded by beaches and harbours, and as a result there are loads of watersports and activities on offer. If you head inland, Plymouth’s city centre is home to the Drake Circus shopping mall and two Universities, which makes for a bustling and vibrant community.

In surrounding areas, you can find amazing natural beauty and historic estates including: Dartmoor National Park, Saltram House and Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park.
